The extension not only gives you a random quote from the database, but also shows your recently visited websites to make the new tab page just as practical as the boring old Google one.
Well, now would be a great time to switch! If you are not willing to switch, here are a few guides to how you can achieve pretty much the same effect:
Firefox users will need to navigate to the URL about:config and click Proceed to any warning messages that come up. Then search for browser.newtab.url, and change the Value to http://barfandbel.ch/startpage.
First, you'll need to install the Custom New Tab Page extension. Once installed, open a new tab. You'll be asked to enter a URL. Enter in http://barfandbel.ch/startpage and click OK.
One thing to note with Safari is that you'll need to change your homepage to BarfAndBel.ch/startpage as well. If you're fine with that, keep reading!
Go to Edit > Preferences and change your homepage to BarfAndBel.ch/startpage. In the dropdown for New tabs open with select Homepage.

Change the first line of the field under Home page to http://barfandbel.ch/startpage. Click on the Settings (gear) icon in the top right, and click Internet Options. Under Tabs, click on the button Tabs. For the When a new tab is opened, open: dropdown, choose Your first home page. Click OK.
Install a better internet browser. In all seriousness, Microsoft Edge doesn't have the functionality to customize your new tabs. Even though Edge is faster, it is certainly not as functional as other browsers!
Sometimes, you just want to hide away the dragons. Totally get that. Here is how to reset your settings and uninstall plugins:
Simply go to chrome://extensions (which you might have to copy and paste into the URL bar) and disable or remove the BarfAndBel.ch extension. Easy peasy.
You'll need to navigate to about:config, click Proceed, search for browser.newtab.url, and change the Value back to about:newtab.
You'll need to navigate to the URL opera://extensions and remove or disable the Custom New Tab Page extension.
Go to Edit > Preferences and change your homepage to whatever you want.
Change the first line of the field under Home page to whatever you want.
